There is an interview in todays Sunday Independent (Irish Ed) with former Meath GAA Man, and herbal doctor, Seán Boylan. He was a lifelong friend of Wilson, first meeting him as a child as his father traveled to Sale to get treatment for Parkinson's disease & the Wilson family gave the Boylan's a lift in their Morris Minor. He said that Tony was a very dear friend, and would often visit Ireland. He also said that Wilson would've liked to have been good at sport, but lacked any coordination. Nonetheless, Tony attended GAA matches, and loved the amateur ethos. I have to say, it's one of the most bizarre pieces of information to emerge over the last while. Boylan is reasonably well known in Ireland as being a rather stern figure - not likely to be seen down the local pub, not to mind hanging out with the one of the founders of the Ha¸ienda! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Boylan |

Not completely unexpected, but still a great shock. The music business has lost one of the greatest personalities. Rest in peace, Tony. |

RIP Tony. From my perspective, one of the only people in the music industry who never sold out. A real loss for Manchester and music in general. |

It's Monday and I'm still affected by this. I was with two old friends on Saturday when we heard the news - all of us had been heavily influenced in our lives by what Tony was responsible for, and I still can't quite believe that he's no longer here. A genuinely brilliant man whose influence has been and will continue to be enormous. |

The world is a much duller place without him, thankyou Tony for everything from producing the truely wonderful Girls Dont Count to building Dry and beyond. I only met him once at an Adventure Babies gig in Camden and he was lovely and friendly. You will be missed. |

I turned over to BBC2 and saw Paul Morley, Peter Saville, Steve Morris and Richard Madeley, and my heart jumped into my mouth, I just knew. I grew up in Devon, listening to New Order, 808 State and lots of other Bands from the area. But even though I did'nt come from Manchester, the music, the style and the ideas that Tony championed were far reaching and truly Inspired me, and still do. I was lucky enough to visit the Hacienda ONCE in 1992 when I was 17, for PSB51, and I will never forget it. Tony was a true visionary, and will be greatly missed. Sleep well Tony |

What do you say? Where did it begin...where will it end.. I realise that when I was recording the Durutti trax for Factory Sample- present at one point were Martin,Dave Rowbotham, Tony Wilson and myself. I'm the only one still here...and I hope, whatever |I do that I honour their memory and too many others to mention.... Colin |

I had the pleasure of meeting the great man in the'80s at Palatine Road, after being invited there. He was a total gentleman, he told one of the girls to give me a pile of freebies, some being a handful of the FAC120 badges, this after buying some from the Record Peddler for £20 a piece. Talked with him for about ten minutes, about future Factory releases. Will be sadly missed, THANKS FOR THE MUSIC TONY!!!! |

i don't often feel the need to post on forums but feel like it needs to be done. RIP the legend. what he did for manchester, music and the arts in general should have been recognised before his premature death. it's not often someone's ego matches their intellect... x |

A great person with humour and a devotion to Manchester which is to be admired. A sad loss to the City which he helped to shape more than anyone in the past 30 Years. You changed my life and enriched it with wonderful music, the best club in the world and made me proud to be born and live in Manchester. For all that and so much more i THANKYOU and hope you are remembered for being Tony a pillar of the community. Thanks and sleep well. Johnny Mc |

God bless, Tony. Without hi Manchester would be a sadder place, he was a visionary and showed what the city could achieve. Just got back from the free Bunnymen concert in St.Helens and Ian McCulloch gave a sincere "good night and God bless" to the man. |
